Following right after our Gold Medal Showing in London was the next stop on our European Tour – Portugal! We were excited to be partnered with Portuguese Rammed Earth Builders and Engineer Nuno Lucio and Ana of A. Engenharia Taipa (Taipa Engineering) from the beautiful Algarve region on the south coast of Portugal.
Our courses and build however, took us about one hour north of Lisbon into the scenic area near Torres Vedras. Earthen building is no stranger to Portugal although it had fallen out of fashion until recently. Bringing modern stabilized Rammed Earth to the marketplace is a great option here where it gets very hot in the summer. The thermal cooling properties of a RAmmed Earth home means a comfortable home all year round for the owner.
Once again we were joined by students from around the world. England, Ireland, Scotland, Portugal, France and Reunion Island, USA, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Finland, Ghana, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Latvia, the Netherlands and St. Martin were all represented this year.
